    • Godot tries to be smart around resource usage and will ignore a viewport with size 0,0. With OpenVR we get the viewport size from the headset but we won't actually run this code until the viewport gets processed, that however never happens. Your classic catch 22. The workaround is dead simple, give the viewport a size, even just setting it to a ...

    • If true, the viewport rendering will receive benefits from High Dynamic Range algorithm. High Dynamic Range allows the viewport to receive values that are outside the 0-1 range. In Godot HDR uses 16 bits, meaning it does not store the full range of a floating point number.
    • Let's use a texture as the mask, but have the texture be from a Viewport! This will allow us to do some interesting 3D color masking effects. To do this, we'll need a few things. The first thing we will need is a Viewport to render the color mask. For my project, I've just created a Viewport node with a Camera node as it's only child.
    • Jan 27, 2015 · We should pause a bit to discuss the viewport, it’s a critical concept in graphics. As you may notice in the earlier screenshots, the Viewport is drawn as a blue rectangle, with it’s top left corner at 0,0 in 3D space. By default in Godot 2D, the root node is a viewport, which is why we could access it using get_parent() from our sprite node.

Next, set the size of the Viewport to (1024, 512). The Viewport can actually be any size so long as the width is double the height. The width needs to be double the height so that the image will accurately map onto the sphere, as we will be using equirectangular projection, but more on that later.
